What will participation in the Summer Legal Academy entail? Participation will entail three weeks of classes. Students will take 6 different classes — two in each of the three weeks. There will be reading for each class session, and participants are expected to be prepared to engage the reading material. For a more complete sense of the schedule, please see the Sample Schedule section on this page. How much reading should I expect?

You should only have reading for one class per day. But you should expect hours of reading for class preparation per night. Is this a recurring program? It is ideally for college students who: are considering law school; or have not considered law school, but are interested in areas that are impacted by law, including business, real estate, criminal justice, immigration, innovation, voting rights, health access, among others WATCH: Hear reactions from students who particpated in last year's program.

Who is Eligible to Attend? Students who have completed at least 30 credit hours or the course equivalent toward earning an undergraduate degree, and will be enrolled in an undergraduate institution in the fall of Why Should You Attend?

Miami Law has produced leaders at every level of law and policy — local, state, national and international. Miami Law has a talented and committed faculty whose work touches on some of the cutting edge issues in society today. Cost of Attendance? Course material will be provided at no cost. WEEK 3 Introduction to the Elective Curriculum During the third week, students will take two additional courses that apply foundational concepts and materials to areas beyond the first-year curriculum.

Thanks to the continued support and generosity of Florida State Law alumnus Wayne Hogan '72 , President of Terrell Hogan , and his wife, Patricia, the program has a financially secure future. College students enrolled at two-and four-year institutions, in all majors and from all backgrounds, are invited to apply following their freshman year.

We particularly welcome students from groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession. Because one purpose of the program is to help students direct their remaining time in college to best prepare for law school, only rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to participate.

The program will be offered in person on the Florida State University campus. There is no application fee and the program is offered at no cost to participants. Double occupancy on-campus dormitory housing is provided, and each participant will receive a meal card for the duration of the four-week program. Participants will be responsible for their personal transportation to and from Tallahassee.

In addition to partnering with a faculty mentor, Fellows will meet with other ABF faculty and affiliates. Fellows also participate in a series of in-house seminars and information sessions with legal professionals to get acquainted with the many facets of sociolegal research and the legal system , as well as crea te the opportunity for long-lasting professional relationships in the sociolegal field.

The se fellowship s foster a diverse and inclusive community for underrepresented individuals in the fields of law and social science. Applications will be considered only from students currently attending colleges and universities in the United States.
